Článek analyzuje několik monografií významného italského právního historika Giovanni Diurni, který se zaměřuje především na středověké právo. Cílem článku není jen představit skutečné činnosti italských výzkumníků zabývajících se právní historií, ale především postihnout význam studia právní historie pro moderní právní vědu. Potvrzuje přitom závěr, že řešení aktuálních právních problémů nelze vyřešit bez znalosti právní historie.

The article analyses several monographs written by the significant Italian legal historian ? Giovanni Diurni, whose focus is especially on medieval law. The aim of this article is not only to introduce actual activities of Italian researchers dealing with legal history, but especially to find out the importance of studies of legal history for modern legal science. The article confirms the conclusion that the solution of actual legal problems cannot be solved without knowledge of legal history.
