Abstrakt EN: This paper focuses on the construction of the concept of active aging in the context of Czech Republic. Based on in-depth interviews with elderly and an ethnographic study of centre that offers free time activities for elderly it shows how is the idea of active aging manifested in the concrete life-styles of seniors and their ways of talking about aging. The paper highlights especially three distinct features of the model of active aging as it is presented by Czech seniors themselves: 1) Construction of the positive image of aging where the idea of activity plays the key role 2) Consumerist attitude toward the specialized services for seniors that functions as one of the key mechanism of the construction of model of active aging. 3) Gender differences in the active life style in old age.
