|Abstrakt EN:||The University of West Bohemia in Plzen (Czech Republic) supports an integration of disadvantaged or handicapped students as well as employers (teachers, researchers). This was the key reason why the map of accessibility of the buildings has been developed. The map shows particular university buildings (including libraries or student halls of residence) in Plzen and Cheb. These buildings are marked on the map with simple icons representing facilities important for handicapped people (e.g. elevators, barrier-free parking places, wheelchair accessible entrances or chance to buy something to eat or drink). The icons are connected to detail description of each building. This paper is focused on the technological parts of the map development. It covers all parts of map realization – the transformation of source data from unstructured text or tables to the formalized data set based on XML, transformation of the source data to the spatial data files in KML or GeoJSON format, data visualization in a map client and generating of of the set of interconnected web pages in HTML 5. All automated changes of source data were realized by XSLT styles and XSLT processor. The development phase includes research of existing solutions, selection of suitable client or map and web pages design. This paper also describes all development steps and think about next steps and improvements. The main goal of this article is to introduce an approach of web thematic map development based on modern technologies and standards as well as on close communication with real users and clients. This approach emphasizes the new role of cartographer – to be a mediator between all subjects involved in web map life cycle.|
